Flyers home opener set for October 1 against perennial power Idaho

The Western States Hockey League 2010-2011 regular season schedule was released on Thursday and the Valencia Flyers road to the Thorne Cup is now paved.

The Flyers much anticipated home opener will take place on Friday October 1, as they welcome in the Idaho Jr. Steelheads for a three game weekend set that is sure to get Ice Station Valencia bumping.

Before their home opener, the Flyers begin the season in the desert, as they travel to Arizona on consecutive weekends for three game sets with the up-start Arizona RedHawks, Septemer 17-19  and make the trek back the following weekend for three with the now eight-time defending Thorne Cup Champion Phoenix Polar Bears.

Other notables include three rivalry building home- at-home series against San Diego, Long Beach and Bakersfield.

The defending Western Division regular season champion Fresno Monsters give Flyers’ fans an early holiday gift when they roll into town December 10-12 for what has the makings to be a huge series heading into the Western States Shootout in Las Vegas before the holiday break.

After a few weeks, the Flyers will return home and kick off 2011 with a three game series against Arizona before heading to Idaho for a weekend set. The concluding game of that series will take place at the luxurious Qwest Arena, home of Idaho’s ECHL franchise.

The Flyers will then return home for five consecutive make or break home games, three of which will come against the vaunted Phoenix Polar Bears.

The Flyers will conclude their regular season on February 19 at home against the Bakersfield Jr. Condors.
