Finally Back in California, Flyers Nab First Win Published on 10/10/2011 4:25:00 PM

After starting the season winless after long trips to Dallas, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona, the Valencia Flyers finally returned home last week, still looking for that elusive first victory.
Rested and ready, the Flyers traveled down the 405 on Saturday night to take on the also winless Long Beach Bombers, in their only game of the weekend.
Early on in Lakewood, the Flyers troubles continued as veteran forward Guy LaPorte’s first goal of the season paced the Bombers to a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Flyers Head Coach Jocelyn Langlois must have had some said poignant things to say between periods, as his team came out flying in the second.
Just 1:17 into the middle frame, the Flyers struck to tie the game at one as forward Eddie Keshishian notched his fourth goal of the season. Austin Ehrlich and Sam Khongmuk were credited with the assists on the goal. Keshishian led the team in points last season and will be relied upon heavily this season to provide offense. The goal gave the veteran forward points in six-straight games.
A little over six minutes later, the Flyers took the lead for good as Sam Khongmuk scored off a feed from recent acquisition Kris Guitard.
Brandon Weise’s power-play goal gave the Flyers a 3-1 lead late in the period and Khongmuk added his second of the game with 4:53 left before the intermission to give the Flyers a commanding 4-1 lead heading back into the locker room.
The Flyers controlled play for most of the third period, as Long Beach goaltender Salvatore Tecci made some timely saves to keep his team down by only three.
LaPorte pulled the Bombers back within two with his second goal of the game late in the third but Austin Ehrlich’s empty-net goal sealed the 5-2 win for the Flyers.
Stephen Palmer took the win in net, stopping 22 of 24 Long Beach shots.
The Flyers power play went 2-11 on the evening, while the penalty kill continued its hot streak, stopping all seven of Long Beach’s power play opportunities.
Swedish forward Sam Khongmuk led the Flyers with two goals and one assist, while Eddie Keshishian, AlbertBoyamyan and Austin Ehrlich each notched two points.
Keshishian currently leads the team with 10 points, which is good enough for sixth overall in league scoring.
Albert Boyamyan is currently fourth overall in scoring amongst defenseman, with six points on the season.
Lastly, Austin Ehrlich is currently third in rookie scoring with nine points.
The Flyers can now relax, as their next eight games are all within the friendly confines of Ice Station Valencia, beginning this weekend with two against the same Long Beach Bombers. Friday October 14 and Saturday October 15, both games beginning at 7:15 PM.
Tickets are available for as low as just $5, so be sure to make plans to be there when the Flyers take flight on Friday night!
